A Completely Unitary AFB Processing System
NAC-PAC® UNITARY™ Individualized Specimen Reagents for Mycobacteria Processing is a completely unitary system. The pre-aliquoted reagents, packaged in a compact tray and combined with UNITARY Specimen Tubes containing NALC, create an easy-to-use and precise system designed to eliminate bottle-to-bottle cross-contamination. One sample, one set: that’s UNITARY.

Eliminate Cross-Contamination
Conventional mycobacteria processing systems on the market today use shared reagents to process multiple patient samples. This use of common bottles has the possibility of causing cross-contamination between specimens, which could compromise the quality of the diagnostic results. The NAC-PAC UNITARY Reagent Set eliminates this bottle-to-bottle cross-contamination risk by providing pre-aliquoted reagent bottles—one set for each patient specimen being processed.
Easy-to-Use
The UNITARY System is also easy to use and requires minimal measuring. Dispense each pre-aliquoted reagent into the UNITARY Specimen Tube at its appropriate step in the AFB processing procedure and then… that’s it! No need to store opened reagent bottles or balance volumes for centrifugation.
Improved Recovery
NAC-PAC UNITARY is based on the NAC-PAC RED AFB Digestion and Decontamination System that is proven to have a higher mycobacteria recovery rate than conventional preparation methodologies.[1] UNITARY takes the system a step further by providing the reagents in pre-aliquoted bottles.
One Sample. One Set.
NAC-PAC UNITARY is completely individualized, single-patient-sample processing. One set of pre-aliquoted reagents for every patient sample.

the UNITARY system
UNITARY ™ Specimen Tube
Sealed inside each UNITARY Specimen Tube is one of Alpha-Tec Systems’ signature N-acetyl-L-cysteine (NALC) tablets containing the precise amount of NALC necessary to process an individual patient sample. The NALC is used as a mucolytic agent, disrupting the chemical bonds to liquefy the specimen.
NAC‑PAC® RED
NAC‑PAC RED contains a visual pH indicator that, when used along with NPC‑67®, changes from red to colorless as neutral pH is reached. This provides convenient, visual confirmation of neutral pH after the digestion and decontamination step without hydrochloric acid titration.
NPC‑67® Neutralizing Buffer
NPC-67 is the neutralizing buffer used in the NAC-PAC UNITARY System that, together with NAC-PAC RED, provides the color change necessary to determine neutral pH. It is a 67 mM phosphate buffer and is compatible with most molecular diagnostic methods and systems.
PRB™ Pellet Resuspension Buffer
PRB resuspends the specimen pellet and further manages pH after the centrifugation and decanting steps by bringing the specimen to a tightly controlled pH range of 6.8-7.1 — the optimal range for mycobacteria recovery.

Specifications:
• Individualized reagent sets that eliminate bottle-to-bottle cross-contamination
• Visual color-change indication of neutral pH without titration
• Compatible with instrumented and manual mycobacterial growth systems and molecular methods
